underwater/unseen is an interactive project which consists of a library of audiovisual samples combining ocean and protista kingdom. sound and animation is a whole, they complete each other. every user can controll it by a MIDI controller. it works as an instrument.
protista is one of five kingdoms of organisms; their tiny sizes make them hard to be dicovered; ocean is the least accesible place on earth what makes this environment mainly undicovered. this project combines two underwater/unseen worlds and create a new audiovisual one. every viewer can become a creator.
each sample was inspired by different looks and behaviour of protista species
01_reproduction_in_ciliate
most protists reproduce asexually by division (binary fission) as it is showed on the animation; wavy lines are representing cilia that are charasteristic for ciliate; cilia protect and feed the organism as well as help it move

02_outstretch_of_flagellate
protists vary in organization, they can be single-celled as well as multicellular, they can be self-contained or live in colonies such as this flagellate; the name comes from flagellas that help it move

03_amoeba_devouring_paramecium
protists differ also in nature; for example amoeba is a predator to paramecium as the animation shows

05_movement_in_euglena
protista is a unique kingdom of organisms, considering their structure they can resemble animals, plants or fungus; this euglena consists of chloroplasts (distictive for plants) that give the organism characteristic green colour; another unique feauture of euglena is abillity to change its body shape what is showed on the animation

06_pseudopods_outstretching_in_globular_foraminifera
foraminifera means ’hole bearers’ and it comes form the holes thay have in their test; holes enable outstretching foraminifera’s pseudopods used for feeding, locomotion and communication

07_opeing_in_diatom
diatom means ’cut in half’ and while these organisms reproduce by binary fission its test opens like a box; other characteristic feature of diatoms is variety of their shape what the animation shows

08_pseudopods_outstretching_in_rectilinear_foraminifera
foraminifera are the biggest protists, their tests are found in the deepest parts of the ocean; this foraminifera’s test differs from the globular one in shape and distribution of its holes
